79th Tour de Pologne: Global-scale cycling returns to Poland
The cycling season has started for good. The cyclists who previously delivered excellent results during the Tour de Pologne celebrate the triumphs in the largest races. Jai Hindley from the BORA-Hansgrohe group is the latest winner of the Giro d'Italia. In 2019, the Australian came second in the 76th edition of the Polish race. Other Tour de Pologne stars are also shining bright this season; Remco Evenepoel won Liege - Bastogne - Liege tour, but his first victory in the World Tour event was our national race. Thus there is an obvious reason to call the Tour de Pologne the "forge of talents". On 5 August, we will know who will join the fellowship of Sagan, Kwiatkowski, Teuns et.al. According to the latest news, the race in Poland will see the Eritrean Biniam Girmay; this season he has already made history as the first African to win the World Tour.
This year's route promises to be really interesting. The peloton will set off for Poland's roads from Kielce, and the first leader will be announced at Litewski Square in Lublin. The cyclists will also ride through Kazimierz Dolny, Roztocze and the small Bieszczady loop. The fight for the stage win is set on a steep uphill stretch in Przemyśl, thus, fans can also count on great excitement during an individual time trial. The phase is short but demanding, mostly uphill with 415 meters of elevation with the finish line at the RUSIŃSKI Ski Station.
In 2022, the motto of the Tour de Pologne is "Race for Peace". It is a form of support for our closest neighbours on the eastern border. - We want to race to encompass the principles of brotherhood and peace. We can convey these values to people together because Tour de Pologne is an event watched by millions of fans, not only in Poland. The race enjoys an international outreach, stresses Czesław Lang.
The list of attractions is much more extensive. Traditionally, the most popular race in Poland will be accompanied by two other sports events organized by Lang Team. Tour de Pologne Junior will start simultaneously with the race for professionals, and a day later in Arłamów, cyclists will start competing during the next edition of the ORLEN Tour de Pologne for Amateurs.
Tour de Pologne Junior is a series of races for children and youth accompanying our national cycling race Tour de Pologne UCI World Tour, with the main objective - promoting active leisure as an element of proper education and development of children and youth through sport. THis is also the vehicle to popularise cycling and leisuer biking. This year, stages are set in Lublin, Sanok, Rzeszów and Kraków. The Marian Więckowski Memorial is an opportunity for children and young people to ride along a part of the same route covered by professional contenders from the best teams in the world.
31 July sees the next edition of ORLEN Tour de Pologne Amatorów, the Ryszard Szurkowski Memorial in Arłamów.
- This year we focus on a proven place, and we invite all amateurs to Arłamów again. We have prepared a beautiful, demanding, but safe route in the Bieszczady Mountains, with 75 kilometres to cover. Start and finish line at the Arłamów Hotel. It will be a chance to ride along the section of the third professionals' stage from Kraśnik to Przemyśl. The best female and male competitor will win the trip to Madonna di Campiglio. - Czesław Lang announces and adds - I have one more ace up my sleeve. Soon we will reveal more details about the additional award for the fastest ones on the climb to Kalwaria Pacławska. - adds the Olympic vice-champion.
Repeating the same route as last year offers the opportunity to improve your score. Getting a better time will taste the same as gold to many. - The race is guided by the "as long as you fight, you are the winner" motto, and I personally believe it too. - encourages Czesław Lang.
The great cycling festival and one of the most popular sports events on the Vistula River will begin in just two months. The Polish race will once again attract the attention of millions of fans and the media. We invite you to follow the 79 Tour de Pologne UCI World Tour.
