A storm of applause at the start of the 21st Targi Kielce Jazz Festival Memorial to Miles
This form of the thriller definitely screening appealed to the audience gathered at KCK. As announced by Dr. Andrzej Mochoń, president of the Kielce exhibition and congress centre, the Memorial to Miles festival will be filled with various forms and unveilings of jazz. A silent film from almost a century ago combined with jazz arrangements by contemporary musicians definitely delivered on that promise. Guitarist Piotr Domagała, trumpeter Adam Kawończyk, drummer and accordionist Oleg Dyyak, and singer Kinga Rataj, fascinated by fado music, perfectly illustrated the action taking place on the screen. The result was rewarded with torrential applause.
This is just the beginning of jazz diversity; Friday, 22 September belongs to the original jazz sounds. At 7 p.m., the electronic duo Skalpel will perform accompanied by a live band. Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudła the creators of Skalpel have for years combined local jazz traditions with fascination possibilities of electronic music.
Friday evening also featured the Yazz Ahmed quartet, the leading trumpet player of the new generation in Europe. This British-Bahrain artist has worked diligently to become one of the game changers on jazz stage.
Saturday evening at KCK with Ptaszyn
On Saturday, 23 September at 6 p.m. the concert stage welcomes the master. Without this personage Polish jazz would be in a completely different place. Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski accompanied by outstanding musicians - pianist Wojciech Niedziela, bass player Andrzej Święs and drummer Marcin Jahr. After the classics, the Polish-Brazilian bossana with Dorota Miśkiewicz will come upon the stage. As announced by the respected singer, the icon of Brazilian bossanova - guitarist Toninho Horta, bassist Michael Pipoquinha and Polish drummer Bodek Janke will appear on stage with her. The sounds created in the city of eternal sun, Rio de Janeiro fill the space. There will also be a surprise - a new interpretations of Dorota Miśkiewicz's original songs from the album "Caminho", such as "I'm humming, whistling to myself".
Memorial To Miles finale with Pawlik and Pospieszalski
The Sunday (24 September) jazz meeting commences with the Włodek Pawlik’s trio on stage. Pawlik comes from Kielce. The artist has been the first Pole to have received the Grammy statuette - the most important award of the American phonographic industry.
Many find Marek Pospieszalski's octet the most important project in Polish jazz in recent years. The band performs at the Targi Kielce Memorial to Miles festival's finale. The Octet features the plethora of Polish jazz and independent musicians of the 80/90 generation. Marek Pospieszalski will be joined by tenor saxophonist Piotr Chęcki, trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski, violinist Tomasz Sroczyński, guitarist Szymon Mika, pianist Grzegorz Tarwid, double bassist Max Mucha and drummer Qba Janicki.
Four days’ fiesta with jazz masters in Kielce
The Targi Kielce Jazz Festival “Memorial to Miles” is staged from 21 to 24 September. The concerts will take place in the Grand Concert Hall of the Kielce Culture Centre at Plac Moniuszki 2 in Kielce. Buys tickets at the KCK box office.
