An international conference during the Polsecure fair devoted to the identification of victims in mass disasters
The international conference on "Confidence in identifying victims - the role of the DVI team at mass disasters sites" started by an attempt to answer the questions: what are the DVI teams, why is the identification of victims is very important and what is the activity of the teams that work to identify victims in different countries, e.g. in Ukraine, Malta and Great Britain.
Every person has the right to retain their identity
The beginnings of the DVI team formation in different countries are associated with specific events: an accident, a terrorist attack, a natural disaster, a war or other event that requires appropriate action. They always include cooperation with various services. The appropriate procedures are required. Respect for the dignity and rights of the deceased person are mandatory.
The international conference also discussed the conditions in which DVI teams are set up, the processes, as well as the methods and challenges in identifying victims. For victims identification, the special features and traits are used, such as tattoos, medical or odontological data, as well as information obtained on the basis of imaging tests. DVI groups are made up of adequately prepared people who form interdisciplinary teams.
The discussion panel during the Polsecure expo was moderated by Agnieszka Łukomska from the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police.
