Conference on ecological and sustainable gardening with limited fertilizer consumption and better harvest quality

19 january 2023
The speakers of the "Ecological and Sustainable Gardening" conference held within the scope of the Fruit and Vegetable Farming Expo in Kielce talked about the European Green Deal, production costs, and ways to reduce the consumption of fertilizers and improve the quality of crops. Many people listened to the lectures and debates

The speakers focused on the soil. In the era of high prices of fertilizers and the Green Deal requirements, there are more and more farmers who strive to increase the efficiency of fertilizers use and obtain better quality crops.

Dr. Mirosław Korzeniowski, president of the Agroekoton Association, explained that the European Green Deal is already being implemented  emphasizing the fact that it is necessary to disseminate knowledge about this package, the possibilities of obtaining EU funds and the significance of the scheme.  “It's time to stop scaring people, it's time to take an active part in the process. An open approach to these issues is needed, said Dr. Korzeniowski.  We don't have to be afraid of challenges  as Polish gardening is environmentally friendly. We have good foundations for further sustainable modernization  and we boast to have the industry leaders pf the highest level. Many farms already meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Green Deal strategy objective.

He added that the changes and implementation of the European Green Deal are also influenced by the National Strategic Plan; subsidies may give thus an impulse to modernize farms.

The changes that can already be introduced to adapt to the principles of sustainable agriculture were outlined by the speakers at the conference. The speech was about soil acidification and the need for liming, or the use of humic acids, which are the most important component of humus determining the fertility and yield potential of soils.
