Contemporary religious art comes in all shapes and forms. Sacroexpo Exhibition - The Arts Zone - the exhibition and auction
For the first time the Sacroexpo Exhibition in Targi Kielce features its Art Zone which puts the latest works dedicated to modern religious art into the limelight! When visiting the Kielce exhibition (19 to 21 June), you will be offered the opportunity to see several hundred original paintings and sculptures made by over 100 artists. On the second day of Sacroexpo, 20 June, some of the presented works will be available for auction at a live art auction room. The Arts Zone is a joint project of the Art in House Auction House and the Art Gallery, Icon Art Gallery in Lviv, Friends of Nowica Association and Targi Kielce.
- We treated the upcoming SacroExpo as a challenge: we want to present modern Christian art that would express contemporary spirituality and at the same time present a high artistic and aesthetic level. The artists who will present their works at SacroExpo offer a diverse style and creative expression – emphasises Aleksandra Koper, representing the Auction House and the Art in House Art Gallery.
Several hundred paintings and sculptures from over a hundred artists
The artist fellowship presenting their works in the Art Zone during the Sacroexpo Exhibition includes:
- Piotr Barszczowski, winner of the gold medal at the 13th Biennale in Florence, with his monumental "The Last Supper",
- Katarzyna Słowiańska-Kucz, the author of "Flemish Fairy Tales" in which she conducts surprising dialogues with old altarpieces,
- Sylwester Stabryła, the creator of modern psychological portraits which make use of iconographic and compositional references to the works of European masters,
- Joanna Mieszko, a heir to Edward Dwurnik and Nikifor’s style, her interest encompass architecture and the metropolis; commentator on the contemporary human condition,
- Jan Dubrowin, a master of modern academicism, who introduces religious and spiritual topics to the world of Polish folklore and traditional customs,
- Borys Fiodorowicz, whose works pertain to numerous moral, ecological and social challenges we observe in the surroundings - often presented with a pinch of salt,
- Robert Jadczak, an artist drawing on cubism (especially the work of Picasso) and geometric abstraction.
Contemporary icons in the Arts Zone
The Arts Zone includes a very interesting part - contemporary, abstract, often minimalist icons created by artists associated with the Icon Art gallery in Lviv, as well as those created during open-air workshops in Nowica.
- Probably this is the first extensive presentation of contemporary icons, whose authors, painters from Ukraine and Poland, gathered around the "New Icon" initiative. Many of these works were created as the result of international iconography workshops organised in Nowica, a small village in the Beskid Niski – explains Mateusz Sora from the Association of Friends of Nowica
The artists whose icons are available for viewing and purchase during this year's Sacroexpo Exhibition are: Kateryna Kuziv, Ivana Dashko, Victoria Shtyk, Andrija Vynnychok, Danylo Movchana and Ewa Zalewska.
