Dorota Miśkiewicz and Toninho Horta - the duo performs at Targi Kielce Jazz Festival Memorial to Miles
The 21st Memorial to Miles Festival has been organised by Targi Kielce and the Kielce Cultural Centre; again the event promises to be outstanding. From 21 to 24 September, artists who have gained fame and appreciation in Poland and Europe will perform at the Kielce Culture Centre. The legendary Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Włodek Pawlik and Marek Pospieszalski's octet offer surprising performances which appeal to your emotions. There will also be representatives of the new jazz wave - the Skalpel duet with its electro sounds and the English Yazz Ahmed Quartet. One of the main stars of the festival is Dorota Miśkiewicz featuring her new project - a duet with the Brazilian guitarist Toninho Horta.
Brazilian music has always fascinated Dorota Miśkiewicz; this inclination is best reflected in the album “Caminho” released in 2008. The album's flavour is emphasised by the southern approach to rhythm, not only in samba and bossanova, but also in songs rooted in jazz.
Several years after the "Caminho" release, the artist again went south - she went to Rio de Janeiro, where she recorded an album with the Bossanova icon, guitar virtuoso Toninho Horta. Pat Metheny, with whom Horta collaborated in the 1980s, often emphasised his inspiration with the style; he was also admired by Milton Nascimento, AC Jobim, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett, who had worked with him for years.
The city of eternal sun hosted a week-long recording session with Brazilian musicians. Dorota Miśkiewicz and Toninho Horta created a unique material that will be released in 2023. It consists of the most beautiful songs belonging to the canon of Brazilian music, as well as compositions by Toninho Horta. As befits music whose emotional range extends from laughter to tears - these will be both cheerful songs, conjuring up the image of a sunny beach, as well as more poetic songs, marked with longing and melancholy typical for bossanova. New interpretations of the singer's original songs from the album "Caminho" will also be a surprise.
The duo will be accompanied on stage by bassist Michael Pipoquinha and drummer Bodek Janke.
Dorota Miśkiewicz and Toninho Horta will perform on Saturday, 23 September at 8 pm on the KCK Culture Centre ‘s Grand Concert Hall. Earlier, at 6 pm, the Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski Quartet will play. A ticket for both concerts costs PLN 89, a pass for the entire four-day festival - PLN 199. Tickets available at the KCK box office and on kck.bilety24.pl
