EU billions have revolutionised the police. 25 earmarked for the "death star"
Police cars, helicopters, motorcycles and overalls, road traffic ambulances, computer equipment, nationwide IT systems and many other devices were purchased with the help of European funds over the 20 years of Poland's presence in the European Union and during the pre-accession period. The way the European funds influenced the Polish police equipment was discussed on the first day of the Polsecure at the international conference "EU funds support the Police modernisation and enhances innovation". Małgorzata Kubicka, deputy director of the Finance Office of the Police Headquarters, Agnieszka Szymańska, director of the Road Projects Department of the Center for EU Transport Projects, Mariusz Kasprzyk, director of the European Project Service Center of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, and Maciej Kaczorowski, director of the European Funds Department of the Ministry of Interior and Administration emphasised the importance for the development of services.
Examples of the use of European funds were discussed by inspectors - Mariusz Żurawski, director of the Police Logistics Office; inspector Piotr Pogorzelski, deputy director of the Communications and IT Office of the Police Headquarters and inspector Mariusz Kudela, deputy commander of the Central Police Investigation Bureau.
25 million for the "death star"
One of the largest projects under which CBŚP purchase programme - equipment and new technologies and "death star" code-named project. – Final value ammouts PLN 25 million; seven tasks focused on the purchase of equipment, including communication and software. I can't say much more in detail, but these tasks were classified. Importantly, the project undoubtedly contributed to increasing the effectiveness of the tasks carried out by CBSP - explained inspector Mariusz Kudela.
The other area where EU funds supported the CBŚP includes training projects. The third is related to international cooperation, primarily related to combating drug crime. Experts recalled the "White Snow", carried out on the initiative of the CBŚP and the Italian Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services (DCSA), with the participation of COPE of the Ministry of Interior and Administration. As the result, 83 people holding high positions in the criminal hierarchy were detained, over 12 tons of drugs worth almost EUR 1.2 billion were seized, 160 pieces of firearms, a thousand pieces of firearms, over 10 thousand pieces of ammunition and two drug laboratories and hemp plantations were closed down.
As the speakers said, this action was successful thanks to the use of external funds. One euro invested in this project equals 1,700 euros in return of the secured value of drugs. Projects related to solving problems and crime bring results, including financial ones - said inspector Mariusz Kudela.
