Famous Poles and their coins

The National Bank of Poland photographic exhibition “Portraits and Coins” held in the Artists’ Square in Kielce

The exhibition is open to the public in Kielce Plac Artystów (Artists’ Square) until 31st August 2011


The National Bank of Poland has prepared a special edition of coins; the photographs of these coins alongside with the autographs of Poles who are universally known and esteemed are put on display in the photographic exhibition in the centre of Kielce.

“Portraits and Coins” is the collection of over 100 photographs which feature: Jerzy Buzek, Lech Wałęsa, Tadeusz Mazowiecki and Jerzyk Owsiak and many others.

The distinguished representatives of the world culture and sports, economists and actors present the collection of most beautiful coins issued in special occasion batches. The collection comprises unique exhibits such as “Polish August 1980”, “John Paul II Beatification – 1 V 2011” or “Polish Presidency in the Council of European Union”.

The theme of each coin is directly associated with the private life, professional or artistic achievements of the persons presented in the pictures. Until now the NBP has commemorated over 450 themes – the most important events and outstanding personalities of Polish history.

In Kielce the photograph exhibition can attended until 31st August; the venue is Plac Artystów, right next to 27 H. Sienkiewicza street.

The exhibition is put on display in Kielce and fifteen other cities, Gdańsk, Krakow, Warsaw Wocław and others. The action held during the next year’s, 20th final of WOŚP (The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity) will be the crowning element of the exhibition

The National Bank of Poland intends to celebrate and commemorate the WOŚP anniversary through the special coin issue.

The organisers of the exhibition held in Plac Artystów are NBP Kielce Division and Targi Kielce.
