Grand Press 2024: The winners and nominees serve as a proof of democracy and reliable journalism

The best Polish journalists - the competition winners announced; they represent the media that provide ongoing coverage for events organised by Targi Kielce. The winners' fellowship includes Gazeta Wyborcza, Money.pl, Wirtualna Polska, Polish Radio, Business Insider, Newsweek and TVN

Press also distinguished the Kielce exhibition and congress centre in 2024. Targi Kielce was among the 500 strongest Polish brands, alongside giants such as H&M, Philips, Visa, and MasterCard. This is the result of the annual study of brand media coverage in Poland, by the "Press" magazine in cooperation with PSMM Monitoring & More. The "Top Marka / Top Brand" ranking presents the results of the media coverage analysis of brands, taking into account their presence in the press, radio, television, the Internet and social media. Since 2007, the ranking has assessed the strength and image of brands in Poland. A brand's place in the ranking depends on its positive reception and the number of people it reaches.

This year, the TOP 500 Brands ranking sees Onet, WP and PKO Bank Polski at the top; Targi Kielce is ranked 180th, ahead of brands such as Synthos, Pepsi, 4F, KGHM, Kielce's Echo Investment and the popular Męskie Granie. In the exhibition industry ranking, the Kielce exhibition centre takes second place, behind the Poznań International Fair and ahead of the International Congress Centre in Katowice, Amber Expo and Expo Kraków.

Compared to last year, Targi Kielce recorded a clear advancement – from 295th place in the TOP 500 Brands ranking to 180th, and from third to second in the industry category.

Journalists at the Targi Kielce

Each year the Kielce exhibition and congress centre's Press Office hosts over 1,000 journalists - reporters, journalists, photographers and camera operators  Their work results in over 25,000 publications related to Targi Kielce each year. We have already hosted representatives of the German ARD radio station, Pacific Press, SITTA, TASS, the French La Monde daily and Iranian television IRIBNEWS. And many more guests at tje Kielce exhibition and congress centre's Press Office.  The Polish media also offered coverage for our events, including TVP Info, Polsat, TVN 24, TV Trwam, Superstacja, Polish National Radio, and local Polish Radio stations. Texts regarding on events at Targi Kielce are also published in  Gazeta Wyborcza, Money.pl, Business Insider, Puls Biznesu, Rzeczpospolita and Onet.pl, to name a few.

Prizes awarding ceremony of the  Grand Press 2024

The prestigious Grand Press competition has made it possible to learn the names of the most reliable and professional journalists in the country for 28 years. On 10 December the winners of the awards for the best press, radio, television and internet materials in the past year were announced at the Polish History Museum in Warsaw.

In 2024, the Grand Press competition consisted of eight main categories:

  • News
  • Investigative journalism
  • Columnists
  • Press/Internet reportage
  • Report and audio documentary
  • TV/video reportage
  • Interview
  • Specialist journalism and new forms of journalism

Additionally, special prizes were awarded -

  • Grand Press Economy
  • Grand Press Digital and Technology
  • Bohdan Tomaszewski Award
  • Reporter's Book of the Year

In 2024, the Grand Press Award for Local and Regional Journalism was presented for the first time; the new establishment  as was emphasised during the gala, journalism does not only happen in Warsaw. Local media journalists often play a key role, being the only source of information and support for residents of smaller towns.

Best of the best

The title of Journalist of the Year was awarded - based on a vote of 88 Polish editorial offices representing the press, radio, television and internet media. Andrzej Andrysiak, president of the Association of Local Newspapers and publisher of "Gazeta Radomszczańska", when receiving the award, mentioned many journalists working in local media, such as Ala Molenda from Chrzanów and Jurek Jurecki from Zakopane.  He emphasised their role in monitoring the hands of those in power and their importance for Polish democracy.

Andrysiak received a prize of PLN 40,000 and a Grand Press pen-nib. The Journalist of the Year 2024 voting - runners-up by Renata Kim ("Newsweek Polska"), Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz (TVP), Andrzej Poczobut and Patryk Słowik (WP).

News  Wojciech Czuchnowski ("Gazeta Wyborcza") for the text "Kaczyński's Secret Letter".

 Investigative journalism  Renata Kim for the series on Collegium Humanum.

 Press/Internet reportage  Tatiana Kolesnychenko and Maciej Stanik (Wirtualna Polska) for a report about a Ukrainian war hero.

 Report and audio documentary  Dominika Dębska (Polish Radio Białystok) for the series "On the Border of Endurance".

 TV/video reportage   Tomasz Patora and Joanna Pęcherska-Fiałek ("Uwaga!" TVN) for the "The Spirit Rules in Żuromin" series.

 Interview  Donata Subbotko ("Gazeta Wyborcza" daily) for the interview with Wojciech Kwaśniak.

 Columnists  Małgorzata Tomczak ("Gazeta Wyborcza" daily) for the "The Grey Border" text.

 Specialist journalism:  Natalia Szewczak (Business Insider Polska) for the analysis of aid programs.

Local and regional journalism was distinguished for the first time – the award went to Maciej Czerniak ("Gazeta Pomorska") for the "Handles" series.

The special prizes were awarded -   Grand Press Economy, Grand Press Digital and Technology and the Bohdan Tomaszewski Award.  The Reporter's Book of the Year - "Cat Music." A Choral History of the Kraków Pogrom” by Joanna Tokarska-Bakir.
