Mobile ISR Mobile Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance System premieres at MSPO

04 september 2024
The result of the cooperation contract concluded a year ago during the International Defence Industry Exhibition by the Polish Armaments Group with ICEYE and Military Communication Works No. 1 was presented at this year's MSPO in Targi Kielce. The Mobile ISR Satellite Reconnaissance Platform is one of the most modern solutions in the world. It allows armed forces to make quick decisions based on real-time satellite data.

 Military Communication Works No. 1 SA (WZŁ-1 SA), ICEYE Polska, the domestic branch of the world leader in permanent monitoring of the Earth using radar satellites, and Polish Armaments Group SA (PGZ SA). The consortium demonstrated the jointly developed Mobile Satellite Reconnaissance Platform ISR (MPRS ISR), adapted to work with satellites equipped with synthetic aperture radars (SAR) and optical sensors.

The solution combines communication and data transmission systems, user safety, power supply and a specially designed antenna system, ensuring fast data transmission and its direct distribution to the appropriate recipients at any command level. All elements have been integrated in an appropriately equipped container, which will be transported on a Jelcz chassis;

the entire system was developed jointly by the engineering teams of ICEYE, WZŁ-1 SA and PGZ SA MPRS ISR and provides the ability to conduct permanent operations using the potential of the ICEYE satellite constellation, collect data in almost real time and analyse it on an ongoing basis. The system is designed for cooperation at the operational level, supporting commanders in making decisions. Due to MPRS ISR, users can obtain situational awareness on the battlefield more efficiently and quickly than before, significantly increasing the safety of performed tasks. The mobility and compatibility of the MPRS ISR with all elements of the Field Communication System is worth emphasising - thus it provides the ability to immediately respond to the rapidly changing conditions of the modern battlefield and distribute the results of the ISR reconnaissance system's work.

ICEYE owns and operates the world's largest synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation and is a trusted partner to governments and businesses. Multiple ICEYE satellites can visit the same spot above Earth dozens of times a day, providing radar imaging day and night, regardless of weather conditions. SAR data from the ICEYE constellation can cover both large geographic areas and provide high-resolution images for smaller areas.

- We are proud that together with our partners from PGZ and WZŁ-1 we can present an innovative and comprehensive solution for servicing SAR and optical satellites. This new system has great export potential. Direct access to Earth observation data and intelligence information provided in near real-time enables the optimal use of ICEYE satellite technologies. This pioneering solution was developed jointly by teams of top-class engineers in Poland and Finland. The premiere of MPRS ISR in Kielce is a consequence of excellent, strategic cooperation aimed at using the full potential of the ICEYE constellation to benefit our customers in Poland and allied countries, said Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and co-founder of ICEYE.

- Satellite reconnaissance  and surveillance and communications systems play an essential role in the functioning of the armed forces. Acquiring and processing satellite imagery data in real-time can provide an advantage on the modern battlefield. These are conclusions that follow the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine. The Polish Armaments Group  has been working on this solution for some time. In doing so, PGZ uses both its own resources gathered within the Capital Group and the potential of external entities. This has been the basis for the cooperation agreement signed by PGZ SA, WZŁ-1 and ICEYE during the 31st edition of MSPO. The result of this cooperation is the presented Mobile Satellite Reconnaissance Platform (ISR), a needed, modern solution that is compatible with the systems operated by the Polish Armed Forces. The system prooves that cooperation focusing on dispersed competences can result in the offer of a comprehensive product for the Polish Armed Forces that meets the challenges imposed by the current geopolitical situation and enables its future expansion to include subsequent modules as new technologies. These become more mature in this dynamically developing market - commented Krzysztof Trofiniak, President of the Management Board of PGZ SA

"WZŁ-1 SA, the company with almost 70 years of history, supports national security and constantly takes action to meet the challenges we face in the field of satellite communications. The lessons learned from the conflict on our eastern border show that satellite communications and radar reconnaissance are crucial on the battlefield. The company's many years of experience allowed us to participate in the preparation of the concept of the Mobile Satellite Reconnaissance Platform (ISR). The system is based on container solutions with a dedicated antenna system ensuring fast data transmission from the satellite segment and subsequent distribution, meeting the needs of the Polish Armed Forces. The ISR Mobile Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance System concept primarily includes solutions that meet the requirements of the modern battlefield data transmission, safety of use, data transmission and power supply. It is worth emphasising that the platform is fully compatible with the communication systems currently used in the Polish army. The mobile solution can be used both at the operational and tactical level," he added. after President of the Management Board of WZŁ-1 SA Maciej Mieczysław Więckowski.
