New "Rak" showcased at MSPO 2024

Huta Stalowa Wola [Stalowa Wola Steelworks - HSW] works on a new generation of turret system with a 120 mm mortar. The Defense 24 Days conference featured Waldemar Janiak, director of the technical and commercial office at HSW, invited to visit the Polish Armaments Group’s expo stand at this year's International Defence Industry Exhibition, where you will be able to see the modernized "Rak"

The new mortar design includes a significantly redesigned turret;  the front armor plates with a slightly greater inclination angle are the most appartent difference. The rear part of the turret wa also also differently shaped, with characteristic diagonal armor plates in the lower part. The new barrel assembly included in the device is another design change;  in the new design, the barrel assembly has been adapted to the one currently used in Krab self-propelled gun howitzers. The mortar was also equipped with a new ammunition loading system. The new 120 mm mortar turret system was developed primarily for installation on the new LPG chassis.

At the May conference, director Janiak assured that the new variant of Rak is fully functional and currently being tested.

It is worth recalling that the first demonstrator of the tower was presented during MSPO in 2008. Further variants of the mortar were also demonstrated and showcased in Kielce. This year's Expo is held from 3 to 6 September. The Polish Armaments Group has been the Strategic Partner of the International Defence Industry Exhibition.
