The subfamily of lady's slipper orchids (Cypripedium) is a unique group of perennials which take their name after characteristic flowers which loom like a shoe with a rounded toe. Although they look exotic, they can be easily grown in areas where it is cold for several winter months, and thus also in Poland.
Most shoe species come in 4th . frost -resistant zone. These plants withstand frosts reaching even -35 ° C. The lady's slipper orchids, just like Asian Bletilla striata and European marsh spotted orchid are the easiest orchids to grow. In the Polish flora there are about 50 species of native orchids. One of them belongs to footwear lady's slipper orchids family - Cypripedium calceolus. From the northern parts of Norway to the eastern outskirts of Siberia; the geographical presence is outstanding. Other European countries boast lady's slipper orchids - eastern parts of Belarus: have C. macranthos and C. guttatum. Their homeland is North America, the mountain provinces of China and the ranges of the Himalayas and Karakorum.
