Plastics Industry Meeting discussing the place of plastics in a sustainable and competitive European economy
Key to this process will be investments in mechanical and chemical recycling technologies and legislation that creates demand for closed-loop solutions. Nevertheless, conference participants pointed out that circularity alone is not enough to strengthen the European plastics industry; major challenges, such as high energy prices and complex regulations, require solutions at the European level.
Attention was also drawn to the fact that plastics play a fundamental role in automotive, construction and packaging sectors. Therefore, closer cooperation between legislators and business representatives is needed to ensure that new regulations are implementable and support the development of circularity. Otherwise, Europe risks being left behind in global competition. Details can be found at plasticeurope.org
