Plastpol officially commences; the plastics industry in Poland and Europe discussed at the conference
The official opening of the PLASTPOL - Tuesday, 21 May, with the presence of Bożena Staniak, vice-president of the management board of Targi Kielce. The session presented the current situation of the global exhibition industry, the trends in this sector and activities in the field of ESG in the Kielce exhibition and congress centre.
- Plastpol has been designed for the plastics industry, the expo scope is closely related to the ESG strategy. As Kai Hattendorf, CEO and Managing Director of UFI, rightly said, ESG is an important issue for the developed and developing economies. This issue cannot be checked off as done because it reflects who we are and what we do. Targi Kielce undertakes various activities in the field of environment, social and corporate governance, said Bożena Staniak.
The "Plastics Industry in Poland and Europe" conference was an excellent opportunity to emphasise the importance of plastics business for the economy. An overview of current data on the plastics industry in Poland and Europe, the latest statistics, trends and challenges faced by the industry was discussed by Dr. Eng. Anna Kozera-Szałkowska, Managing Director of Plastics Europe Polska.
- From the very beginning, the Foundation has been an Honorary Partner of the Plastpol Expo. We are very happy to have the opportunity to use Targi Kielce as teh venue to present data on the plastics market in Poland and Europe. The plastics industry is global, for many years, Europe was the primary plastics producer. Now, Europe’s share of world production accounts for 14%. The amount of plastics produced globally is increasing, in 2022, global production reached 400.3 million tons. – explained Dr. Eng. Anna Kozera-Szałkowska
The global production of pro-consumer plastic recyclates in 2022 amounted to 35.5 million tons, and the global production of bio-based plastics and plastics with biological content amounted to 2.3 million tons in 2022. Between 2018 and 2022, total plastic production in Europe decreased by 5.6%, and circular plastic production increased by over 30%. In 2022, Europe’s production reached 11.7 million tonnes, which accounted for 19.7 of the total plastic production in Europe (58.8 million tonnes). In Poland, plastic production in 2022 amounted to 2.4 million tons. Between 2018 and 2022, plastic consumption in the packaging sector in Europe decreased by 3.8%.
The PlasticsEurope Polska Foundation presentation also presented the dynamics of growth in plastics production in Poland compared to Europe, as well as forecasts for the coming years. The need to adapt to changing environmental and technological requirements was also emphasized. Explanation of the EU regulations’ impact on the plastics market was also an important point.
The PLASTECH INFO Technical Seminar held on the second day of the Expo, on Wednesday, 22 May will also be an opportunity to talk about the situation in the industry.
