PORT PC 2021 Congress in June

26 may 2021
The event which traditionally accompanied the ENEX is now held online. The event's highlight - "Heat pumps on the renovation wave".

17 June 2021  - save the date for  IX Polish Heat Pump Technology Development Organization (PORT PC). This year's event will be held online for the first time. The 9th Congress is a significant moment in the 10-year history of the association and the history of heat pumps in Poland. PC PORT Congress is the most important event for Poland's heat pump industry. The annual event is a meeting platform for 300 industry insiders. The event brought together over 100 participants in 2020.  According to the invited foreign guests, it was the largest event devoted to promoting heat pumps in Europe and probably in the world.  The meeting has been designed to integrate the whole industry. Its objective is also to be the knowledge and experience exchange platform for specialists.

The leading theme of the 9th PORT PC Congress are electric heat pumps in the light of the EU's renovation strategy - the main direction towards climate neutrality of the heating and cooling sector in the European Union. This directly results from the already published European Green Deal documents and the EU strategies for the renovation of the buildings sector.

There complementary, equally important topics discussed during the event - taxonomy in the energy efficiency of buildings, with particular emphasis on heat pumps, the possibility of using heat pumps in existing buildings and in new plus-energy buildings, and the new PORT PC industry standards for ground source heat pumps.

New PORT PC forecasts for the heat pump market in single-family buildings in Poland until 2040 will also be presented.

According to MSc. Paweł Lachman - President of the Management Board of PORTPC - "virtually, all forecasts regarding the future of heat pumps have been confirmed in the current climate policy of the European Union and the European Green Deal. What is also important, this also applies to the recently published Energy Policy of Poland until 2040.  Now, the most important challenge is a rapid and possibly harmonious development of the industry with regards to heat pumps and accessories producers in Poland. This will be one of the most important topics of the 9th PORT PC Congress".

The 9th PORT PC Congress includes four thematic sessions:

  • The European Green Deal and the role of heat pumps in the heat and cooling sector in Poland
  • Heat pumps in existing buildings
  • Heat pumps in new plus-energy buildings
  • Low-temperature reservoir - a source for heat pumps

New Green Deal and taxonomy in the energy efficiency of buildings

The first session of the Congress, chaired by  Małgorzata Smuczyńska - Vice President of the Management Board of PORT PC, features special guests from the European Commission, the European Heat Pump Association EHPA, the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management who present the importance of heat pumps in the energy transformation of buildings and Poland's Energy Policy until 2050.  This session presents changes in the main legal acts draft regarding the Green Deal, including the RED III (RES) and EED directives as well as the taxonomy of sustainable finance, will be presented.

Heat pumps in existing buildings

Application heat pumps in existing buildings is the leading theme of the IX PORT PC Congress.  A session devoted to this topic is chaired by  Marek Miara from the Fraunhofer Institute ISE. Existing buildings in Poland will be discussed by M.Sc. Andrzej Guła - president of the Polish Smog Alert and attorney  Christian Schnell  PhD.- the Jagiellonian Institute expert for the integration of energy sectors.

According to  Marek Miara - a leading expert from Fraunhofer ISE "Each subsequent study, scenario or forecast about the future energy system in the European Union countries clearly indicated the very important or even decisive role of heat pumps in the decarbonisation of heating systems. In order to achieve climate neutrality, heat pumps are crucial as carbon-free solutions designed to heat buildings. This is especially true of existing buildings.  Heating systems not based on fossil fuels still come in abundance; this situation must change in the coming decades. Heat pumps, both in individual solutions and in district heating networks, are a key technology to meet this goal. "

Heat pumps in new buildings

The session is chaired bty Paweł Lachman - president of PORT PC. The discussion on new plus-energy buildings in Poland features Professor Engineer   Anna Bogdan - president of the Polish Association of Sanitary Engineers and Technicians and M.Sc. Paweł Wróbel - regulatory expert of the Industry Agreement for Energy Efficiency.

From 1 January 2021, the higher requirements of the Technical Terms 2021 have applied. This part of the Congress highlights the increasing importance of plus-energy buildings in the light of the new building requirements,  presents economic analyses showing the profitability of using plus-energy buildings with the use of heat pumps and photovoltaics. We will also talk about the effects of the social campaign "House without bills" and what the optimal program for co-financing plus-energy buildings in Poland should look like.

Low-depth geothermal energy - new industry standards and the potential of Poland compared to Europe

The Congress also welcomes Jakub Koczorowski - a chairman of the heat sources committee, a member of the PORT PC board, presenting the updated PORT PC industry guidelines, part 1, concerning ground sources for heat pumps. In this session, MSc.  Grzegorz Ryżyński (Polish Geological Institute) will also present an analysis of the potential of shallow geothermal energy in Poland in terms of the installed heating capacity for ground source heat pumps as of 2020 and in the light of the market development forecast until 2030. In addition, MSc. Engineer   Marek Hajto - a vice-president of the Polish Geothermal Association, will discuss the results of the EGEC (European Geothermal Association) report and present possible synergies of deep and shallow geothermal energy.

New PORT PC guides and industry standards

During the Congress, there will be a spotlight on revised guidelines for heat pumps, part 1 and three guides on the use of heat pumps in existing single-family buildings and on the taxonomy of sustainable finance, the PORTPC guide for energy certifiers and auditors in the context of new technical conditions of buildings (WT 2021).

The online event will take place on line Prior registration required for the admission-free event.

The  Polish Organization for the Development of Heat Pump Technology PORT PC

The Polish Organization for the Heat Pumps Development (PORT PC) is an industry association whose goal is to strengthen the heat pump technology image by creating a quality management system, development and implementation of technical standards and certification in addition to providing professional technical advice on the European market. Since 2012 PORTPC has been a member of the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) based in Brussels. In addition, PORT PC cooperates with European industry organisations, including the German BWP and the German association of VDI engineers. PORT PC is a founding member of the Industry Agreement for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (since 2018)
