Practical knowledge presented at the NGO-EXPO
Availability of NGO activities for people with special needs
Public utility buildings must meet many standards and regulations, including accessibility for people with disabilities. In practice, however, organisations auditing this type of facility keep reporting violations of these regulations. The most intriguing were discussed during the workshop, e.g. the problem of aesthetic but dangerous glass doors and walls completely unmarked. Thus transparent walls and doors pose a threat to everyone, especially to the visually impaired.
Government programs to support civil society’s development
The workshop by the NIW was a knowledge compendium for those planning to engage in civic activities which require funds or other support. As it turns out, there are many programs available in our country; these provide support in many different ways. There are obstacles, however - lack of knowledge of the regulations, inability to apply for help, the lack of knowledge about the programs themselves. During the workshops, experts offered step-by-step explanations of who and how could receive government support.
International cooperation as a chance for NGOs development - Erasmus +, EKS, Eurodesk and many others
Not only governments and their organisations can engage in international cooperation, on the contrary - grassroots, non-governmental Erasmus+ campaign is one of such examples. The scheme allows for student exchanges between different countries belonging to the European community. Erasmus+ is not the only organisation of this type. The workshop presented various examples of international activities carried out by NGOs. Still a lot can be done - options were also presented.
