The scientific – technical conference “Operating the utility infrastructure appliances in the case of heavy rainfalls and floods” will be held on the first day of the TIWS fair (20-22 September).

In the A conference room of Targi Kielce the seminar participants will be introduced into the subject of public utility infrastructure operation in flood conditions. Professor Janusz Łomotowski will open the conference as well as deliver the first presentation on “The problem of the water drainage system operation”. The speech on “Geographic Information System utilised in water management in municipalities” will be made by Kielce Town Hall officer Mrs Jadwiga Skrobacka. Renata Woźniak – Vecchi PhD of CONECO-BCE Krakow will make the listeners familiar with the work on “The safe dimensioning basics of face drainage”. Mr Jacek Kopeć will represent National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management. The film North Sea Barriers will also be presented in the course of the conference. The must-be participant at the conference is the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW); the Krakow division employee will have a lecture on “Weather conditions in flood safety/ IMGW monitor”. The conference will be summarised at 2 pm.

The objective of the conference “Operating the utility infrastructure appliances in the case of heavy rainfalls and floods” is to make its participants familiar with the problems and technical possibilities which positively influence people’s comfort in the periods of extreme whether conditions which are more frequently observed in Poland; these conditions comprise torrential rains as well as droughts. The conference is held to facilitate experience exchange and to start the discussion which would lead to creation of the need hierarchy in the critical infrastructure creation and delimitation of the obstacles which impede the realisation and implementation pace of new organisational techniques and investment projects which are designed to minimise the risk as well as the losses originating from whether abnormalities.

The conference organiser is Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy in conjunction with Seidel–Przywecki Sp. z .o.o. publishing house. The conference preparation was also supported by Discussion Forum of Polish Waterworks; the conference has been granted with the honorary patronage of Kielce Waterworks sp. Zoo.
