Sacrum Art Action returns to Sacroexpo! All works auctioned - in person, online, by phone, by order
Can we continue the bond between the Church and art, as it used to be in ancient times possible today? Of course, this can be continued, but this relationship has changed significantly over the centuries. Today's artists create using different styles, they include many 21st century symbolic themes in their compositions, and sometimes add a humorous tone to their works.
All works from the auction have a common religious theme, but the artists approached this issue individually: some created strictly religious and spiritual works, others focused on loose associations. Some works in the catalogue are full of colours and details. Aurelia Sikiewicz-Wojtaszek showed an extraordinary painting with a mass of vibrating details and luminous colours of gold and blue. The painting carries many mystical meanings. Igor Volosnikov created an unprecedented, monochromatic painting - at first glance, it could be perceived as a bas-relief, Baroque styled, similar to those in churches and made by the most outstanding sculptors. Battler, unlike previous artists whose works trigger deep reflections, focused on humour; the religious thread is marked by a symbolic lamb and the text of a psalm. "Madonna", painted in the Art Deco style by Henryk Borowski, is thoughtful and a slightly melancholic, despite the vivid colours around.
The Sacrum Zone is very wide, but many artists have used angelic themes; each angel is entirely different, offers different meanings and emotional load. Leszek Sokół painted an everyday angel; a smiling angel wearing a hat and coat, holding a chamomile flower in his hands; perhaps this is meant to mean that angels are always among us. Jan Bonawentura Ostrowski showed an angelic figure playing a lute or mandolin, which clearly refers to heavenly choirs. Agnieszka Korczak's angel undoubtedly lives closer to God than to human everyday life, as evidenced by his stance in space. The seriousness of his face and his luminous clothes are worth noticing. Agnieszka Słowik-Kwiatkowska incorporated two angelic beings into the comfort of a birch grove; angelic presence offers the mood of the autumn and dreamy landscape, giving it mysticism and mystery. Let us also pay attention to the angelic bas-relief by Aleksander Grzybek. The artist presented several figures in combination, creating an extraordinary, and comprehensive composition full of spirituality, gold and an expression of bliss on their faces.
Breathtaking temples have been built in honour of God from the Church's earliest times - each of them even higher, more detailed, housing huge numbers of believers. The topic of religious and church architecture can also be found at the auction. Joanna Mieszko's work contains a multitude of meanings: the artist, in her characteristic way, detailed a bird's eye view of Warsaw's Savior Square; the choice of this particular place was certainly not accidental. Dawid Masionek showed the facade of the cathedral in Amiens in an impressionistic way; the dominant red colour scheme chosen by the author testifies to the incredible experience of observing the cathedral at dawn with changing lighting. Andrzej Fronczak is the author of the slightly surreal picture - the "Temple Valley" presents a massive building at the top of the hill, basically merging with it. The fog and the noticeable aura of mystery symbolically represent an attempt to reach the heavens. Piotr Rembieliński decided to present the most important Catholic temple in the world, i.e. the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican. The view from behind the cathedral indicates its enormity, especially when compared to the tiny buildings around it.
