The conference to crown the project “The role of cities in integrated regional development” URBACT II in Targi Kielce

„The role of cities in integrated regional development” is an international programme of the City.Region.Net thematic network

The conference “Kielce Municipal Area” which concludes the project “The role of cities in integrated regional development” URBACT II will be held in Targi Kielce Conference Centre on 14th June 2011. the meeting which comprises two thematic session will be attended by Wojciech Lubawski, Kielce Mayor, Bożentyna Pałka – Koruba, Świętokrzyskie Voivode, Adam Jarubas, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship Marshal and Zdzisław Wrzałka, Kielce County Staroste. The lecture on “The counteraction directions against urban sprawl exemplified by experiences of Zurich – the project partner” will be delivered by Martin Harris PhD, the project manager in Zurich.

The project “The role of cities in integrated regional development” has been realised from 21st April 2008 to 19th June 2011; it is an international project of City.Region.Net thematic network with the municipality of Graz (Austria) as the leader and the City of Kielce (Poland), Częstochowa (Poland), Châlons-en-Champagne (France), Oradea (Romania), Arezzo (Italy), Monachium (Germany), Trikala (Greece), Zurich (Switzerland) as the partners.

The City of Kielce partner in the region is Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship Marshal’s Office

The project aims to exchange information between European cities, metropolitan areas and regions in order to work out an innovative model of city and region sustainable development.

The project targeted at creation of operational programmes and policy recommendations to facilitate cooperation between cities and their surrounding, smaller municipalities with respect to:
  • elaboration of common land use policies and instruments to avoid urban sprawl.
  • definition of new financial instruments to meet the multiple tasks and projects of general interest.
  • the involvement of relevant key actors by (re-)defining the criteria for integrated regional development.
Each of the project partners was obliged to create a Local Support Group, to create a Local Action Plan, to develop the “good practice” database. The Local Support Group of Kielce comprised the representatives of Kielce Municipal Area composed of: Kielce, Bodzentyn, Daleszyce, Górno, Kije, Masłów, Miedziana Góra, Morawica, Piekoszów, Sitkówka-Nowiny, Strawczyn, Zagnańsk as well as the delegates of
  • Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship Marshal’s Office (Managing Authority)
  • Starostwo Powiatowe (County Starost Office) in Kielce
  • Kielce Airport S.A.
  • Targi Kielce Sp. z o.o.
  • The Staropolska Chamber of Industry and Commerce
  • Statistical Office in Kielce
In their the Group work focused on creation and implementation of the Action Plan for excelling cooperation between the city and its outskirts in terms of better spatial management and economic growth.

The Project was realised from the subsidies of European Fund of Regional Development for the years of 2007-2013
