Targi Kielce Jazz Festival Memorial to Miles with standing ovations. The amazing Ptaszyn performing live
The Kielce Culture Centre was filled to the brim - so many jazz classics lovers were attracted by Saturday's concert of the legend. The history of Polish jazz is inextricably linked with Ptaszyn; entire generations grew up on his original broadcast "Three Quarters of Jazz" on Trójka - the Polish Radio.
A few days before the concert, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski recalled the Kielce hospitality from years ago in a post on his profile on Facebook. We read: "Kielce brings fantastic memories. In the 1970s, a court assessor who was crazy about jazz created there, out of passion, he organised winter jazz workshops in nearby Mąchocice. There was so much going on there; the best used to join, and among them Zbyszek Namysłowski, Wojtek Karolak, Czesio Bartkowski, Bronek Suchanek, Marek Bliziński and a whole lot of others. And in later years there were also outstanding among students, such as Artur Dutkiewicz, who was then underage. Artistic life was not limited to music alone, we were visited by painters from Kielce - the famous trio Jackowski, Kurkowski, Grabiwoda. We lived in a snow-covered abode, almost cut off from the world, because the plough passed there once or twice a day. One day we scheduled an afternoon with the painters, but they did not jon, on hour or two passed and nothing happened. We wanted to give up, and then, almost at night, three snow-covered owls entered. All they were able to utter was: "When our car drifted into the field, Grabiwodzie's eyes popped out of his sockets." They flew off this snow-covered road straight onto the slope of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. Fortunately, they were chest-high covered with snow, so no one was hurt, but the car got stuck for good. That court assessor was Jerzy Stępień, tears later, he became the chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal, and now he is still a great jazz fan and plays the saxophone.
