The first phase of the contest for Targi Kielce host and hostess

The jury panel was truly impressed with candidates’ unusual and exceptional abilities

The preliminary round was held during International Fair of Dance and Events SHOWEXPO. Over 90 people entered the casting session, and this number included over a dozen of gentlemen. The jury panel was composed of Barbara Słapek – the owner of cosmetic outlet chain For You, Joanna Tomusiak representing Echo Dnia daily and Maria Górska – Targi Kielce representatives who is responsible for host and hostess recruitment.

Despite stage fright the contestants suffered form at the beginning of their presentations, the candidates were quite cheerful on leaving the stage. The casting which was held in the E pavilion was designed to assess how communicative skills and stress resistance of prospective hosts and hostesses. And there were some real gems among the candidates including the yoyo variation specialist (his show can be seen at: www.echodnia.eu) or a young polyglot who peaks German and … Norwegian.

Each candidate had a few minutes to present their personal qualities and answer the questions of the jury panel; this procedure made it possible to qualify candidates to the second round of the casting. The second round is based on the sms poll; the course of events can be observed in Echo Dnia daily.

Working as a hostess creates the possibility to cooperate with foreign exhibitors representing 56 countries; it is also the test of your assertiveness. Contrary to the popular opinion which holds it that a hostess is a voice-less beauty, hosts and hostesses have to demonstrate their intelligence and verbal skill. Politeness and communicative skills are the prerequisites of hostesses’ character as their primary task is promotion of a product or a company. She must be self confident and resolute – these features of character are highlighted by Monika Moskal, the owner of Hostess and Model Agency SHE-CAT. - Contrary to what we usually think, dream-like beauty is not a necessary condition. A hostess does not necessarily need to look like a typical model; on the contrary - in many cases a moderate looking girl appears to be more trustworthy – this is Monica’s another prompt. Hostesses attend promotional and marketing activities, conferences, events, trade fair exhibitions, fashion shows, photographic sessions or advertisement campaigns. Girls present themselves in different stylisations which also include so called body painting. This is a true challenge. A substantial increase of demand for male host can also be observed. Men also turn out to be excellent in this profession.
