The Swietokrzyskie Police Headquarters was also present at the 20th edition of the MSPO with their dog-training display. The dogs help the Police constables patrol the city streets. The dogs received a thorough training at the dog training facility in Sułkowice, near Warsaw. The Sułkowice school was founded in 1958 and ever since it has trained over 15 thousand dogs. The training session lasts up to 5 months; dogs are trained ho to react properly whenever they discover illicit drugs, how to behave when patrolling streets or how to help people in danger.

The Police dog handlers presented their dogs’ skill and abilities to respond to orders, to defend and counteract the assault. The purchase cost for such a dog is 4 to 5 thousand PLN; this high prise stems from the fact that the dog must be in perfect health conditions and free of any problems with joints.

Dogs for Police service are carefully selected – they need to be ranked in the “A” category. Dogs normally live with their handlers in order to increase the bond between man and the animal; this is of vital importance when the handler’s life is in danger and the dog it to help whenever an assault occurs.

There are 37 dogs in Swietokrzyskie Police, most of them a German shepherd dogs. This breed is not a coincidence – German shepherds are exceptionally intelligent. They also easily adapt to the Central and Eastern Europe’s climate.
