Novamont, an Italian company founded by Catia Bastioli in the early 1980s, is not only a symbol of innovation but also a pioneer in the field of sustainability. Its activities are mainly focused on research into biodegradable materials, which are essential in the context of today's environmental challenges. Today, Novamont is a global leader in the bioplastics and biocomponents sector, with four production facilities as well as research centres and sales offices around the world, including Germany, France, Spain, the United States and Belgium.

In 2021, the company made a strategic move with the acquisition of BioBag International, strengthening its position in the global market. Operating at the intersection of innovation and ecology, Novamont offers Italian compostable bioplastics that are not only an ecological solution but also a practical tool in the fight against climate change. By transforming organic waste from landfill into valuable compost, the company supports processes to improve soil quality and prevent soil degradation. Furthermore, biodegradable plastics are used in a variety of applications, from food packaging to coffee capsules, providing an alternative to traditional, environmentally harmful materials.

Novamont's mission goes further than the production of eco-friendly products, inspiring a change in the way we think about industry and consumption and aspiring to create a more sustainable future. As part of this effort, the company has developed the Mater-Bi brand, a fully biodegradable and compostable material that offers an alternative to traditional plastics. Formed from a blend of plant starch, modified PLA (polylactic acid) polymer and additives, Mater-Bi is resistant to a range of chemicals, making it attractive for a variety of applications.

The ingredients used in the production of Mater-Bi come from renewable sources, helping to reduce environmental impact. The material is used in a wide range of applications, from packaging to agriculture, providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastics. Thanks to its ecological characteristics, Mater-Bi becomes a tool for change towards a more sustainable society, supporting our efforts to minimise the negative impact on the environment.
